Valuation

Gleason & Associates has conducted valuation analyses in hundreds of engagements involving controlling or minority interests in businesses for a wide variety of purposes, including:

  • Purchase or sale
  • Shareholder disputes
  • Estate and gift taxes
  • Employee stock awards
  • Reorganization

We also value intangible assets and intellectual property for financial accounting purposes (SFAS 141/142) and for litigation purposes.

We are well versed in the recognized methods of valuing businesses, but also apply informed common sense to reach our conclusions. We bring the accounting, financial, economic, industry experience and certifications needed to perform business valuation services with confidence and assurance.

Because of the nature of our specialized practice, many of our valuation analyses are subject to scrutiny from opposing parties and auditors. Therefore, Gleason & Associates applies a collaborative, team-oriented work and review process to each engagement involving the firm’s top managers to ensure quality. Without an audit or tax practice, we do not have the potential conflicts of interest and independence issues typical of "Big 4" accounting firms.

Our valuation experience encompasses a number of industries including high tech, biotech, professional sports franchises, oil and gas, consumer goods, healthcare, heavy manufacturing, construction, retail, startups and small, closely-held businesses. Gleason & Associates brings years of financial and economic expertise to each client engagement.

Some recognizable past and current clients include:

  • PNC Bank
  • Mellon Ventures
  • Mine Safety Appliance
  • SMS Group
  • Toyota Finance
  • American Eagle
  • Highmark
  • Kennemetal
  • University of Pittsburgh
