Case Studies - Utilities Valuation Case Study A Engagement The client is a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy and information delivery. The company provides software solutions and services to electric utilities enabling an intelligent grid to more efficiently manage demand, integrate distributed energy resources, improve service reliability, and optimize cost and capital productivity. The firm partners with local utilities, internet service providers, equipment suppliers, and financiers to create end-to-end solutions and to deploy smart grid solutions around the world. Gleason's Role Gleason & Associates was retained by the client in order to estimate the fair value of two intangible assets - customer relationships and developed technology - identified by management. Our analysis was to assist the firm with its allocation of the stock purchase price it paid for a firm. The acquisition included an earn-out provision with a maximum value if the Company met certain sales figures. Results Based upon our firm's study and analysis, we estimated the fair value and useful life of the acquired firm's customer relationships and the developed technology.
